The Little Things - September 13, 2010

Daily Reading

Daily Verse
Rend your heart
and not your garments.
Return to the LORD your God,
for he is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and abounding in love,
and he relents from sending calamity.
Joel 2:13

Daily Thought

God said, "Rend your heart and not your garments."

Then the high priest tore his clothes.
--Matthew 26:65

...because religion was important to him.

Jesus said, "If you love me, you will obey what I command."
--John 14:15

...because obedience is more important than religion.

So...
When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his garment, woven in one piece from top to bottom. "Let's not tear it," they said to one another.
--John 19:23-24

Daily Prayer

Righteous God, You have given us Your commandments, not as a burden; rather, they are a blessing. They give life and show me the way to live. Even the littlest commandment. Every Word You speak, God, is valuable and true. May I learn Your Word and keep it in my heart, so that it will guide my steps.

You are a gracious and compassionate God. Thank You for so great a salvation through Your Son, Jesus Christ.

Amen.
