For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance:

"Do you know what the secret of life is?"

The movie is City Slickers.

Billy Crystal plays Mitch, a man celebrating his 39th birthday and dealing (poorly) with a midlife crisis.

Jack Palance plays Curly. He is older.

"Do you know what the secret of life is?" Curly asks Mitch.

"No, what?" Mitch shrugs.

Curly holds up one finger. "This."

"Your finger?" Smart Aleck.

"One thing. Just one thing."

"That's great. But what's the one thing?"

"That's what you've got to figure out."

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.

Daily Prayer

Father God, the most important thing, the one thing out of everything, is You. To love You with all that I am. My heart, soul, mind, and strength. In doing this, I will, at the same time, love others as much or more than myself. Because that is what You did. In humility, You sacrificed Your Son for me. For each of us. For all of us.

God, grow Your love in me. May You be not the first of many, but rather my One and Only consuming passion.

Daily Thought

It is the mind that says to the hand, "Don't turn that light on," when you have to walk from the bedroom to another room, and it's pitch black.

The head cannot say to the feet,

"I don't need you!"

The mind is really egotistical. "I know my way around this house! Don't turn that light on."

On the contrary, those parts of the body

that seem to be weaker are indispensable.

Daily Prayer

My God, Jesus Christ, Savior, You redeemed Your family, the church, and You are its head. We look to You for all strength, guidance, wisdom. You do not show favoritism, rather, to be first, You took last place. Teach us the same humility. May we be the first to take a knee and serve, lifting others up to Your glory.

May we be one in all things. When one hurts, we all suffer; when one succeeds, we all share the victory. One for all, and all for one, and God, you get the glory.

Democrats have Republicans.

Microsoft has Apple.

Assyria had Babylon had Persia had Greece had Rome.

Competition. Anyone can win, which means everyone will lose ...eventually

Daily Prayer

Almighty God, Creator, Sustainer, Redeemer, Judge. By You all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by You and for You. You are before all things, and in You all things hold together.

You have given Your Son, our Savior, the Name that is above all names, that at the Name of Jesus, every knee will bow, above the earth, on the earth, under the earth, and every tongue will confess He is Lord.

I confess, He is Lord. He is my Lord.

Daily Prayer

Sovereign God, Maker of everything. Your Son, King of kings, Firstborn over all creation. You hold all things together. You not only made the planets, the stars, the suns, and the moons, You determined their path. Silly people worship the created rather than the Creator.

God, may I always keep You in my thoughts. May I always allow You to determine my steps. God, may I have the wisdom it takes to hear Your voice, know Your thoughts, follow Your lead.
