Beyond Repair - February 13, 2010

Daily Reading

Daily Verse
He is to lay his hand
on the head of the burnt offering,
and it will be accepted on his behalf
to make atonement for him.
Leviticus 1:4

Daily Thought

"What's the damage?" I asked the insurance adjuster as we sized up the wreckage that used to resemble a new pick-up truck.

I meant, of course, not just how bad is it, but how much will it cost?

A payment plan? A burnt offering, a grain offering, a fellowship offering, a sin offering, a guilt offering. Twice daily blood sacrifices of goats and bulls, doves and pigeons, offerings of grain and oil. God's answer to my wreckage. An every day reminder that sin is that bad. It costs that much.

"You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."
--Genesis 2:16-17

"It's beyond repair. Totalled," calculated the adjuster.

It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
--Hebrews 10:4

The offerings are not enough. What now?

Therefore, Christ came into the world.
--Hebrews 10:5

We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
--Hebrews 10:10

To God's Glory,
Dave

Daily Prayer

Righteous and Almighty God, You are holy and Your laws are good. We pray for Your kingdom to come in its fullness and restore Your reign on earth, as it is in heaven.

You have made righteousness available to us through the life, death, and resurrection of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Death is the cost for our sins, and Your Son paid the penalty. Thank You for Your grace, Your forgiveness, Your sacrifice. We are Yours, purchased by the blood of Your Son. May our lives be a daily sacrifice to You.

Amen

  1. I like the quote from the adjuster...great analogy Dave! I am obsessed with the message of who Christ is in Hebrews. Every time I think about the significance of what Christ did, and the law the he fulfilled I am blown away...
