Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Holiness - February 16, 2010

Daily Reading

Daily Verse
"I am the LORD who brought you
up out of Egypt to be your God;
therefore be holy, because I am holy."
Leviticus 11:45

Daily Thought

What if the Declaration of Independence read,
"Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Holiness"?

What if we pursued love more than self?
What if we pursued joy more than fun?
What if we pursued peace more than position?
What if we wait for it more than we go for it?
Patience.
Kindness.
Nice guys finish last? What if the last really will be first?
Isn't goodness more important than greatness?
Isn't faithfulness better than experiencing it all?
What if our words were always gentle?
Self-Control.
What if the next thing we do is always the right thing to do?

We would be different.
We would be a people set apart.
We would be holy.

The funny thing is, pursuing holiness is a better road to happiness than pursuing happiness.

To God's Glory,
Dave

Daily Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Holy, holy, holy is the Lord. Thank You for Your Holy Word, out of which the Holy Spirit illuminates Your truth. Thank You for Your holy and only Son, Jesus Christ, who came to give us life and life overflowing.

God, may we be like You in holiness. May we imitate Jesus. May we speak as He spoke, think as He thought, act as He acted, pray as He prayed, love as He loved. May we be holy, as You are holy.

Amen
