Three Little Pigs - January 7, 2010

Daily Reading

Daily Verse
"Only a few years will pass
before I go on the journey of no return."
Job 16:22

Daily Thought

"I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down," said the big, bad wolf.

The first pig made his house of straw, and the second of sticks. Silly little pigs.

The third house withstood whatever blew its way, because that pig used bricks. You know the story.

Here's how the Apostle Paul tells it, "Our foundation is Jesus Christ." If you are building on something else, stop right now.

Our worth is established, not by what we do, but by what Jesus Christ did. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we are born back into God's family (that's what "born again" means). We are God's children made in his image.

So, does anything we do in this life matter? This side of eternity, we have a few years that must count for something.

"You each should be careful how you build. If anyone builds using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, the work will be shown for what it is. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each one's work. If what has been built survives, you will receive your reward. If it is burned up, you will suffer loss. You'll be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames."
--1Corinthians 3:10-15

What you do doesn't get you saved, but what you do matters, because there really is a "happily ever after."

To God's Glory,
Dave

Daily Prayer

Eternal God, you are the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. The end and the beginning. Your ways are pure, you are holy and true, a firm foundation. You do not change with the wind, but we do. When we do not trust in you with all our heart, when we do life our way, when we forget you, we lose our way.

Thank you for sending your Word, written, which lights our path. Thank you for sending your Word, your Son, Jesus Christ, the way, the truth, and the life. May we walk this life with you for the few years we have. Then a bigger and better journey begins!

Amen
