Your House Is On Fire - January 18, 2010

Daily Reading

Daily Verse
When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand
and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters
and led them safely out of the city,
for the LORD was merciful to them.
Genesis 19:16

Daily Thought

Apparently, if you live in a home with a wood shake roof, it is quite possible to enjoy life as usual inside, while your roof is completely engulfed in flames overhead.

My friend, Jon, rushed into such a home to discover a family seated around the dinner table, dining on pot roast, TV on, even a fire roaring in the fireplace.

"Your house is on fire," got their attention. It communicated danger, but not enough urgency. Was there time to save anything? Photo albums, of course.

Jon knew there was no time to hesitate, but the family didn't, so grasping the hands of mom and dad and tugging helped communicate how critical it was to leave the past behind.

Dinner was ruined. The family is okay with that, because the family is okay. Jon tugged them to safety.

God's Word describes three times when life goes on as usual, unaware of imminent danger. The world at the time of Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah at the time of Lot, and the time before Jesus returns. (Luke 17:26-33). Two of these times have passed. One remains. Imminent.

To God's Glory,
Dave

Daily Prayer

Savior God, our deliverer and redeemer. Thank You for salvation. Thank You for rushing into this world, our home, and holding out Your arms.

Father, we know the good news of salvation, because we know the Savior. May we share this good news with the world, and lead them to Jesus.

Amen
