Donkey Talk - March 4, 2010

Daily Reading

Daily Verse
The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your own donkey,
which you have always ridden, to this day?
Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?"
"No," he said.
Numbers 22:30

Daily Thought

Today, I'm writing about a talking donkey.

Now, if God wants to get someone's attention, you'd think a talking donkey would do the trick.

Not so much. Balaam hardly notices the wonder of a talking donkey.

What gets his attention? The faithfulness of the talking donkey.

"Haven't I always been faithful?" said the donkey.
"Yes, you have," said Balaam.

Then the LORD opened Balaam's eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low and fell facedown.
--Numbers 22:31

It still works that way. Some guy dies, and he asks Abraham to send a guy back from the dead to tell his brothers about God.

"No," said Abraham, "even if someone rises from the dead, they will not be convinced."

How do we see God?

"You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."
--Matthew 5:14,16

God shows up through the faithfulness of man.
...or beast.

Do you want your friends, your family, your neighbors, to see God? Be faithful.

To God's Glory,
Dave

Daily Prayer

Heavenly Father, We long to see Your glory, the glory of our Savior, our God. Your glory is shown through creation, through the wonders of heaven and earth. But God, you have also placed your glory in us. May we shine forth, and in doing so, Your Name be praised.

God, may the faithfulness of Your church be evident. May we cultivate the soil of our communities by loving and serving in Your Name. And God, we pray for growth. That you would do Your work in this world and we would believe in You, follow You, and praise You.

Amen
