Songs Stuck In Your Head - April 13, 2010

Daily Reading

Daily Verse
Saul was very angry; this refrain galled him.
"They have credited David with tens of thousands,"
he thought, "but me with only thousands.
What more can he get but the kingdom?"
1Samuel 18:8

Daily Thought

Some songs are sticky. Ask anyone foolishly floating through "It's a Small World."

The women came out from all the towns of Israel to meet King Saul. As they danced, they sang:
"Saul has slain his thousands,
and David his tens of thousands."
--1Samuel 18:6-7

The song annoyed Saul, but it stuck. Once sung, so difficult to get out of your head. To remove it, you must replace it.

Sing to the LORD a new song;
sing to the LORD, all the earth.
Sing to the LORD, praise his name;
proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
--Psalm 96:1-3

When you start singing about the works of God, a thousand victories or two, or David's ten, loses it's luster.

I will sing a new song to you, O God;
on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you,
to the One who gives victory to kings.
--Psalm 144:9-10

Saul had the wrong song stuck in his head.

To God's Glory,
Dave

Daily Prayer

God, almighty and good, You are the One who gives victory. That most important victory, the one on the cross, praise God. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" Thanks be to God. You give us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

God, may we sing of You. May our songs be glorious to You and a sweet aroma in heaven. May they be heard, and may You be praised.

Amen
