All My Children - October 11, 2010

Daily Reading

Daily Verse
"Wisdom is proved right by all her children."
Luke 7:35

Daily Thought

The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, "Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and 'sinners.'"
~Luke 7:34

John Newton was a sailor. You've heard "swore like a sailor?" Newton's language shocked sailors.

Guess that came with the territory. He captained a slave ship.

And then he met Jesus.

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.

The slave trader turned preacher, and a good one.

I once was lost but now am found. Was blind but now I see.
~John Newton, Amazing Grace, 1779

Years later, William Wilberforce would listen to Newton preach. You know Wilberforce, don't you? He's the guy that convinced England to outlaw slavery.

But wisdom is proved right by all her children.
~Luke 7:35

To God's Glory,

Daily Prayer

Wonderful God, what a great work You do in our lives. You meet us where we are, sinners, and embrace us, and live in us, and change us from the inside out. There is nothing we do to deserve this. It is only because of Your love and grace that we see salvation.

Thank You.

Amen.
