Do It Again - August 25, 2010

Daily Reading

Daily Verse
The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;
Lamentations 3:25

Daily Thought

A child kicks his legs rhythmically through excess, not absence, of life. They always say, "Do it again"; and the grown-up person does it again until he is nearly dead. For grown-up people are not strong enough to exult in monotony. But perhaps God is strong enough to exult in monotony.

The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
His mercies never cease.
Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.
Lamentation 3:22-23

It is possible that God says every morning, "Do it again" to the sun; and every evening, "Do it again" to the moon. It may not be automatic necessity that makes all daisies alike; it may be that God makes every daisy separately, but has never got tired of making them. It may be that He has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we.

Daily Prayer

Heavenly Father, You delight in the work of Your creation. With glee, You tossed the stars in the sky, positioned the sun and the moon, and exclaimed, "This is good!"

My God smiles. And He smiles upon me. May I wake each day with joyful anticipation, because this is a day my Lord has made.

Amen.
